Lamborn should explain this. (Or maybe Mrs. L should?)

How does a state legislator making 30k/year buy a $111,000 lot in the premium “Pine Creek” area north of the Colorado Springs and build on it a home valued at $533,000 (4800 sq ft) in 2004?  Now in his freshman term as a US Representative he’s pulling down the handsome wage of $165,200… but that still begs the question of how he could afford to build a luxury home while only making $30,000 for nearly 12 years as a state legislator…

OH BUT WAIT!

He doesn’t own the house. He didn’t build the house. He doesn’t rent the house… I guess he only lives there?! Hmm.

According to the County Assessor records, Doug’s wife Jean is the sole title holder on the property. After thirty years of marriage, five kids, and a 19 year history in Colorado Springs I have to ask whether (a) Jean doesn’t trust him (b) this is a tax evasion maneuver of some kind (c) their pre-nuptial agreement expired and he won’t sign a new one, or (d) all of the above.

Regardless of the reason, I for one will add this to my list of things about Doug Lamborn that rub me the wrong way. So if Jean’s money DID build the house I wonder where she got it?

It’s no wonder Doug doesn’t seem to care much for the residents property rights in Pinon Canyon… As someone who doesn’t own a home how could he understand?

  1. He might have run his law practice without malpractice insurance and he is hiding his assets to make himself judgment proof.

That would have no impact on the insufficient income to afford the house though.

  2. There is still a lot of work to be done on Jeanie and figuring out where Lamborn got his money, but I like the start. If I had time I would help you, unfortunately I have to spend my time making some money and looking for my own sugar momma.
